Hilbert man hits 10 motorcycle riders

June 1, 2012 By WRN Contributor

When a 25-year-old Hilbert man is released from the hospital, he will be taken into custody for allegedly causing an accident that killed one Michigan resident and injured eight others. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Dean Will says the man crossed over the centerline on Highway 151 and hit 10 motorcycles in a group of 12. Four to five of the motorcycles took the brunt of the impact.

A Twin Lake, Michigan man died at the scene. Three Muskegon, Michigan men are in critical condition at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center. Five other Michigan men were taken to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, where three of them were treated and released.

Will says the accident scene was a bit overwhelming, because there were so many victims and many of the injured were screaming for help.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital and blood was drawn to see if he had been drinking or taking drugs prior to the accident. Will says they will also go over the vehicle thoroughly, but don’t believe there were any mechanical defects.

The suspect is looking at charges of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. He’s also facing a felony bail jumping charge from Calumet County.
