An intensive search continues in an area south of Madison where two 16-year-old girls went missing Thursday afternoon. The Dane County Sheriff’s Department is using high-tech sonar equipment and divers are back in Lake Kegonsa, in an effort to find Emma Mauer of Stoughton and Sydnie Kwiatkowski of Footville.
The girls were with a few others, who left for a time. When the group returned, Mauer and Kwiatkowski were missing but their purses and cell phones remained.
Sheriff Dave Mahoney says a fisherman saw the girls in the water around 4:30. Mahoney adds it’s possible they may be on a trail or elsewhere nearby.
