Democrat John Lehman may have declared victory in his recall challenge of Racine Senator Van Wanggaard, but the Republican incumbent is waiting for the process to play itself out before he admits defeat.
Unofficial numbers give Lehman the win by about an 880 vote margin, but Wanggaard’s campaign notes at least 600 absentee ballots are still outstanding. With reports of voting irregularities in Tuesday’s election and problems across the county with the unofficial tally, the Republican says he will continue to monitor the results of the canvas before deciding how to proceed.
Wanggaard says people across the state and the country have been asking that he immediately seek a recount. In a statement, he says they will evaluate that option after the official count of the ballots is completed.
