Brewers bullpen leads team to win

July 9, 2012 By Bill Scott

After being kicked out of Saturday’s game in the 1st inning, Zach Greinke

Corey Hart

started Sunday’s game for the Milwaukee Brewers in Houston.  Greinke struggled right out of the gate, allowing three first inning runs.  He was removed after 3.  But five Brewer relievers combined to hold the Astros to 2-hits the rest of the way and Milwaukee rebounded for a 5-3 win.

Corey Hart drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the 10th inning and Rickie Weeks added some insurance  with a run scoring single.  Weeks had three hits to help the Brewers.

Manny Parra notched his first win out of the bullpen this season.  John Axford notched his 15th save.  Marco Estrada, Jose Veras and Francisco Rodriguez also pitched well out of the bullpen.

The Brewers head into the all-star break having won 6 of their last 10, but are 5-games under .500 (40-45).  They’re 8-full games behind the division leading Pittsburgh Pirates

Gennett

Brewers minor league prospect Scooter Gennett played in Sunday’s All-Star Futures Game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

Gennett entered the game in the 5th inning and went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored in the U.S.’ 17-5 win.
