A trio of Americans sit on top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the 67th US Women’s Open from Black Wolf Run in Kohler. Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, and Lizette Salas all fought the heat to fire 3-under par, 69s on Thursday. In all, 14-golfers found red numbers on day 1.
For Kerr and Lincicome, the top of the field is a familiar spot in Major Tournaments. Kerr has won a pair of Majors in her career; the 2007 U.S Open and the 2010 LPGA Championship. Lincicome won the 2009 Craft Nabisco Championship for her lone Major title. Salas is a rookie on tour who is ranked #206 in the world. Her highest finish in any event is a tie for 22nd earlier this year at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. One thing all three have in common is they teed off in the afternoon Thursday.
