The last couple of weeks had been pretty nice for Brewer nation. The Brewers had won 9 of 10 by scoring runs and getting good pitching from the starters and relievers alike.
Thursday, the Brewers reminded everyone just why they are where they are. They had a 9-3 lead over the Cubs and took a 11-9 lead into the 9th inning and wound up losing 12-11.
Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo and Alfonso Soriano all tallied rbi hits with Soriano providing the game winner.
After pitching 8-consecutive scoreless innings of relief, Francisco Rodriguez was given an opportunity to close out a win for the Brewers. But Rodriguez couldn’t slam the door.
The bullpen meltdown spoiled a spectacular day for Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy. Lucroy clubbed a grand slam and drove in 7 runs in the loss. Rickie Weeks also went 5 for 5 for the Brewers.
Ryan Braun and Cody Ransom also homered for the Brewers.
The Brewers return to Miller Park tonight to open a 3-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
