Brewers sweep rival Cubs

August 23, 2012 By Bill Scott

Ryan Braun clubbed his league leading 34th home run of the season and right-hander Yovani Gallardo pitched seven strong innings to lead the Milwaukee

Ryan Braun

Brewers to a 3-2 win and sweep of the Chicago Cubs.

AUDIO: Ron Roenicke says Gallardo was impressive :16

Gallardo (13-8) gave up two runs and four hits, striking out nine and walking two.

Braun’s 34th home run surpasses the 33 he hit during his 2011 NL MVP season.

Prior to his start yesterday, Gallardo had returned home to Texas between starts to visit his ill mother, Eulalia, who had been hospitalized but is back home again.  Gallardo said it was tough blocking that out of his mind.

Chicago’s David DeJesus clubbed a home run off of Gallardo to lead off the game, but Gallardo settled in after that.  The only other Cubs run came in the 7th inning when Bryan LaHair led off with a home run.

The Brewers are off today, then hit the road to open a series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.  The Brewers are just 19-38 away from Miller Park this season.
