GOP convention gets under way

August 28, 2012 By Jackie Johnson

The Republicans have a delayed start to their big gathering. RNC Chair Reince Priebus gaveled the national GOP meeting open and immediately ordered it into recess due to anticipated bad weather.

Priebus was quick to point out the nation’s debt clock. “We also want to draw your attention to the unprecedented fiscal recklessness of the Obama Administration as depicted by the real time national debt clock shown here in the arena.”

And, if that’s not dramatic enough Priebus went on to say, “For this convention we’ve actually installed a second national debt clock that will log the amount of debt that accrues during the course of this convention.”

Priebus also took a moment to recognize first responders and volunteers who are working to keep every one safe from tropical storm Isaac.

It’s a who’s who of Wisconsinites at the event. Priebus is from Kenosha. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker will speak in prime-time tonight (Tuesday). Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) will speak Wednesday night. Former Milwaukee Catholic Archbishop Tim Dolan — now a Cardinal in New York — will deliver the benediction after Mitt Romney’s speech on Thursday night.
