Packers offensive line depth to be tested

August 6, 2012 By Bill Scott

Marshall Newhouse and teammate Greg Jennings suffered concussions in

Herb Taylor

Friday’s Family Night Scrimmage in Green Bay.  There’s plenty of depth at wide receiver behind Jennings, but if the Packers have to play without Newhouse at left tackle, their depth will be tested.

Derek Sherrod is listed second on the depth chart at left tackle, but he’s not ready to go yet and coach Mike McCarthy ruled him out of this Thursday’s preseason opener at San Diego.

Next in line is Herb Taylor, who signed with the Packers last December.  Prior to signing with the Packers, Taylor hadn’t been active for a regular-season game since 2008.

Taylor didn’t have to play last season, so he’s had an entire off-season to get comfortable with the Packers offense.

Andrew Datko is the is the Packers other option at left tackle.

Coach Mike McCarthy didn’t rule Marshall Newhouse out for Thursday.  He said Tuesday’s practice will be the telling story as to his availability against the Chargers.
