Training Camp moves to night time

August 2, 2012 By Bill Scott

After a week of practicing at 8:15 in the morning, the Green Bay Packers will

Desmond Bishop

move their training camp workouts to night time for a while.  It starts with a 7pm practice tonight at Ray Nitschke Field.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said there’s a reason for the shuffling of practice times.

Following tonight, the Packers will hold their annual Family Night Scrimmage at Lambeau Field on Friday.  More than 70,000 tickets have been sold (sold out) for the night-time practice.

Corners working hard

The Packers have been working Jarrett Bush, Davon House, Sam Shields and Casey Hayward at right corner as they battle for the job when Charles Woodson is at safety.

Packers’ corner backs coach Joe Whitt said nothing should be read into who might be playing with the 1’s on any particular day.  Media has speculated who is in front of who based on who has practiced with the 1st team offense, but Whitt said his shuffling of players is totally by design.

Goodell visits

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell paid a visit to Packers Training Camp on Wednesday.  Goodell said he’s comfortable with the idea of using replacement officials in preseason games, including the Hall of Fame game this Sunday.

Members of the NFL referees association were locked out June 3 after talks broke down.  The replacement officials worked practice yesterday and will do so again today, then handle Friday night’s scrimmage at Lambeau Field.

Players return

Linebacker Desmond Bishop and fullback John Kuhn were removed from the P.U.P. list and returned to practice on Wednesday.  But the rules of the new collective bargaining agreement forced both to practice in shells yesterday and again today.  It means they can’t participate in any live action or 11-on-11 work until Friday.
