Marcum keeps Brewers post season hopes alive

September 27, 2012 By Bill Scott

Right hander Shaun Marcum worked 6-innings of 4-hit ball, pitching the Milwaukee Brewers to a 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night at Great American Ballpark.

Ryan Braun clubbed his NL leading 41st home run and Norichika Aoki got the Brewers on the board with his 10th home run of the season.  Aoki leads the majors with 17-extra base hits in the month of September.  He also collected his 35th double of the season later in the game, which set a new franchise record for a rookie.

St. Louis, which lost to Houston 2-0 last night, has the day off today.  So a Brewers victory in the series finale against the Reds today, would draw the Brewers to within 3-games of the Cardinals for the final NL wildcard spot.

Today’s series finale is a big game for Brewers.  They can’t afford to fall 4-games back with only 6-games left to play.

Wily Peralta (2-1, 3.04) gets the start for the Brewers.  Cincinnati counters with Mat Latos (13-4, 3.60).  11:35am 1st pitch time.
