State has mixed job numbers

September 21, 2012 By WRN Contributor

The state added 4,300 jobs in the private sector last month, but the unemployment rate climbed 0.2 percent, to 7.5 percent.

The preliminary figures from the state Department of Workforce Development show there were also 3,500 new public sector positions, bringing the overall total of new jobs to 7,800.

Governor Walker says 43 other states also saw the unemployment rate rise in August. He says they’re going to keep pushing to turn things around, at the state level.

Revised numbers from July show the state lost 7,600 private sector jobs during that month. There was an increase on the public sector side, though, bringing the overall loss in jobs for the month to 6,600.
