The federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration is fining a Black River Falls construction company for a crane collapse which killed near De Pere in April. OSHA issued three safety violations against Lunda Construction.
The accident occurred April 20th in the Highway 41 construction zone. Raymond Ashenbrenner, age 58, of Black River Falls was connecting a boom to a crane, and was killed after the crane’s arm fell on him. Director Frank Winingham of Appleton’s OSHA office said Lunda did not have a competent person on site, to supervise assembly of the crane. Winingham said the company faces the maximum fine for three violations.
The April incident was the first of two fatal crane accidents involving Lunda this year. A Lunda worker was operating a crane July 5 on a bridge, on Highway 41 in Oshkosh, when a girder collapsed and killed a Green Bay man.
