Pilot injured in Wausau crash

October 17, 2012 By WRN Contributor

Officials with the Wausau Downtown Airport say the pilot of a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza was hospitalized after the aircraft crashed Wednesday morning.

Airport manager John Chmiel says the plane was planning to land after flying from southeastern Wisconsin, but went down on approach at about 8:30 this morning just outside the airport’s fenced-in area. Chmiel says weather may have been a factor, although it’s too early to tell. Conditions were foggy with a light mist at the time of the crash.

The pilot’s current condition has not been disclosed. FAA investigators were expected to arrive on the scene this afternoon to investigate.
