Spate of robberies attract attention from FBI

November 28, 2012 By WRN Contributor

A recent spate of financial institution robberies in Southeast Wisconsin has the attention of not only local authorities, but also the FBI.

Agent Leonard Peace, in the Milwaukee office, explains they believe it’s a group committing these crimes — mainly at credit unions, but also a few banks. “There are some characteristics in each of the robberies that has led law enforcement to believe that they are more than likely tied in some way.”

Peace says the offenders are brazen, but also armed. “We’re concerned, because it is ongoing.”

Part of the problem with catching these guys is that they’re wearing masks. “It’s not always easy to identify … to get a real clear picture of who this is.”

Peace says the public’s awareness of this situation can be a help if the robbers strike again. “We want people to be aware that this is going on, to use caution. If you see something, say something. In this case, if you know something, we want to hear from you.”

The FBI special number to call with information is 414-276-4684.

Landmark Credit Union, one of the targeted financial institutions, is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of whoever is behind these armed robberies.
