Grant returns to the Packers

December 6, 2012 By Bill Scott

Mike McCarthy avoided questions regarding the Green Bay Packers lack of

Ryan Grant

interest in running back Ryan Grant at the start of the season.  One thing is for certain though, with the injury to James Starks, McCarthy is good to have Grant back as insurance.

AUDIO: Mike McCarthy said it’s good to have Grant back :14

Grant brings more than 4,000 career yards with the Packers to the table.  Toss in fresh legs and the Packers have a back they know they can count on in a pinch.

AUDIO: Grant was asked if he can provide a spark down the stretch like last year :12

Grant said he was confident this day would come.  He said he returns with a chip on his shoulder but more towards the league and not the Packers.

It took three running backs to go down in Green Bay for the Packers to finally call Grant.  He did spend a short time with the Redskins before they released him.

AUDIO: Grant didn’t think his short stint with the Redskins was it :13

Alex Green will start Sunday night against the Lions and Grant won’t have anywhere near a full work load, but he won’t sit idle either.

It’s been awhile since Grant played extensively and made a huge difference in the Packers offense.  But with 4-games left in the regular season and the Packers stable of running backs thinning out, Grant gives Mike McCarthy some piece of mind if he has to dig even deeper from the teams depth chart.
