Marquette gets overtime win at Pittsburgh

January 13, 2013 By admin

The Marquette Golden Eagles needed overtime to beat the Pittsburgh Panthers 74-67 Saturday night.  With the road win over Pitt, the Golden Eagles join seventh-ranked Syracuse and third-ranked Louisville as the only undefeated teams in Big East play.

While Marquette led for a majority of the game, the lead rarely grew beyond six points, which allowed Pitt to get back into the game late.

With 1.2 seconds remaining and Pitt down by three, Panther Lamar Patterson drilled the game-tying three pointer to send it into overtime.

But in overtime, Marquette jumped out to a 8-2 run and the Panthers never got closer than 6-points the rest of the way.

Vander Blue led the Golden Eagles (12-3, 3-0) in scoring with 22 points, and was one of four players in double figures.  Davante Gardner added 13, Jamil Wilson knocked down 11 points, and Todd Mayo had 10.

Lamar Patterson had 22 points to lead Pittsburgh.

Marquette returns to action Wednesday at home against Seton Hall.
