Body found in burned vehicle identified

February 18, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A body found in a burned out vehicle in far western Wisconsin was identified Monday as 46-year-old Jeffrey Matthews of Hager City. Pierce County sheriff’s officials said there was no evidence of foul play.

Investigators believe Matthews was driving his car on his parent’s property and got stuck in a snow bank when he tried to turn the vehicle around. Relatives said Matthews would have stayed in his vehicle overnight with temperatures in the teens. At some point, a fire started in the engine and Matthews never got out.

Authorities were called to the site on Saturday morning and found Matthews dead in the vehicle.
