Former Sheboygan mayor avoids jail time

February 21, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A former mayor of Sheboygan will stay out of jail, after he pleaded no contest earlier this week to charges that he groped a woman’s breasts during a drinking binge. Bob Ryan will have to pay $770 dollars in fines and court costs as part of the deal, which reduced a charge of Fourth Degree Sexual Assault to two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The incident occurred in 2011 in Elkhart Lake, when Ryan was in the midst of a three day drinking binge. The case also sparked a recall election last year, which Ryan lost.

The 49-year-old Ryan told the judge Tuesday that he had been “drinking to excess” and admitted that’s he’s an alcoholic.
