Hockey Badgers split with Penn State

February 26, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badgers Hockey team failed to sweep Penn State and may have hurt their chances at securing an NCAA at-large spot in the upcoming NCAA Frozen Four playoffs.

Taylor Holstrom scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in overtime to lead the Nittany Lions to a 3-2 overtime victory.

The Badgers had captured the season opener on Sunday, 5-0.

After a scoreless 1st period, the Badgers tallied first when Mark Zengerle scored his sixth goal of the season at the 16:40 mark.

The Badgers increased that margin to 2-0 at 6:41 of the third on a Joe LaBate goal.  Penn State then scored 3 unanswered goals for the win.

There’s a quick turn-a-round for the Badgers, who play at Nebraska-Omaha this weekend.
