Green Bay Phoenix women find out their fate tonight

March 18, 2013 By Bill Scott

The 20th ranked Green Bay women’s basketball team captured their 5th straight Horizon League championship game, rolling to a 54-38 win over Loyola on Sunday afternoon at the Kress Events Center.

Green Bay improved to 29-2, winning their 24th straight game and earnin the Horizon League’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

The Phoenix will learn its seeding and first-round opponent tonight (Monday).

This was not a typical game for Green Bay.  The Phoenix led 34-17 at halftime, then came out hitting just 2 of its first 23 shots and finished 8 of 34 (23.5%), including 1 for 14 (7%) from three point range.

But Green Bay’s defense made up for the lack of offense, holding the Ramblers to 29.8% shooting from the field and just 2 of 18 from 3-point range.

Sarah  Eichler had 16 points to lead the Phoenix, who improve to 14-12 in postseason games held at the Kress Center.
