Hockey Badgers open WCHA playoffs on home ice

Saturday’s 3-2 win over WCHA co-champion Minnesota-Duluth earned the 14th

ranked Badgers the fourth-seed in the upcoming league playoffs this week and home ice at the Kohl Center for this weekend’s games.

Wisconsin (17-12-7, 13-8-7 WCHA) begins the postseason on Friday with a best-of-three series against the 9th-seeded Bulldogs (14-17-5, 10-13-5 WCHA).  The winner of the best-of-three series advances to the 2013 WCHA Final Five, March 21-23 at Excel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Wisconsin skated at Minnesota-Duluth back on Nov. 16-17, posting a 2-0 victory and a 2-2 tie against the Bulldogs.

Wisconsin earned 33 points to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place in the WCHA standings, but holds the tie break over both Denver and Minnesota State for the fourth seed.  The Badgers finished just four points behind first place and two points out of third place.
