Sheriff’s deputy saves baby

March 28, 2013 By Andrew Beckett

A Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputy is receiving high praise, after being credited with saving the life of a seven month old baby.

Department officials say Sheriff’s Deputy Jeffrey Mike responded to a 911 call Tuesday evening from a mother who had pulled over on an on-ramp along Interstate 43, after hearing the child choking in the back seat. The mother was attempting to perform CPR while waiting for emergency responders.

Deputy Mike arrived at the scene just minutes after the call. Police say he cleared the child’s airways and started performing back thrusts and chest compressions. The infant responded by making a closed fist and opening her eyes.

The deputy continued chest compressions until Milwaukee Fire Department medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the baby to an area hospital. The infant is reportedly doing well.
