WIAA State Hockey Tournament is underway

In WIAA Boys state hockey tournament quarterfinals on Thursday,

Superior 6, Fond du Lac 3

Superior (18-7-1) scored three unanswered goals in a 5-minute span of the third period to knock off Fond du Lac (22-4-2) 6-3.

Eau Claire 2, Whitefish Bay Co-op 1

Eau Claire Memorial (21-6-1) broke a 3-3 tie with a Jacob Bresser goal in the third period to give the Old Abes a 2-1 win.  Alex Geving made 29 saves for Memorial.

GB Notre Dame 7, Wisconsin Rapids 0

Defending champion Notre Dame (25-1-1) blanked Wisconsin Rapids (18-9) in its quarterfinal on Thursday.  The Tritons scored 3 in the first period and four times in the third.

Riley Christensen had a hat trick for Notre Dame..

Verona 6, Wausau West 3

Nolan Kepler tallied a hat trick to lead Verona (26-2) to a 6-3 victory over Wausau West (17-10-1) in their quarterfinal game.

Friday’s Semifinals

Verona (26-2) vs. Notre Dame (25-1-1) – 6pm
Eau Claire Memorial (21-6-1) vs. Superior (19-7-1 – 8:15pm

Saturday, March 2 Championship game 2:15pm
