You might be dealing with a stuffy, runny nose, or itchy, watery eyes: all of which are symptoms of either allergies or a cold. Dr. Katherine Gonzaga with Meriter Medical Group says cold symptoms will likely go away in 7-to-10 days where as prolonged symptoms of several weeks means you are more likely dealing with an allergy. Also allergies generally don’t involve a fever, unless there is a secondary bacterial infection.
If the symptoms are severe and limiting your ability go to work or school, she suggests you see a specialist. She also wants to dispel the perception that allergy tests are a “painful procedure.” Gonzaga calls the tests safe, practically painless, and a way to pinpoint what you’re allergic too.
Gonzaga says there are about 35 million Americans who suffer from allergies of pollen or mold.
