Blank hired as UW-Madison chancellor

April 5, 2013 By WRN Contributor

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents has approved Rebecca Blank as the next UW-Madison chancellor.

The board on Friday unanimously confirmed a search committee’s recommendation to hire the acting US Commerce Secretary to serve as chancellor of the state’s flagship campus. Blank will replace interim chancellor David Ward, who has served in the post for two years after Biddy Martin left. She will be paid $495,000 a year, with a private endowment covering part of her salary.

The board also approved hiring David Schmidt from Winona State as the new chancellor at the U-W Eau Claire, at a salary of $220,000 a year.

Both of the new chancellors will begin work this summer.
