Governor praises response in state office building attack

April 11, 2013 By Andrew Beckett

Governor Scott Walker says two Capitol Police officers did what was necessary to protect the public, while responding to a disturbance Wednesday afternoon at a state office building in Milwaukee.

Walker is also offering thoughts and prayers for one of the officers, who was stabbed in the neck by a male suspect during the call. The governor says he spoke with Officer Greg Friberg following the attack, and his thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Friberg was hospitalized and in stable condition. Police have arrested a 25-year-old West Allis man in connection with the stabbing.

The governor says a review of the incident and security policies will be conducted, as is usually the case following incidents of this nature. Walker says he wants to make sure employees in the building and members of the public who visit there continue to be safe.

Governor Walker does maintain an office in the building, although he says the stabbing did not take place on the same floor. Milwaukee Police continue to investigate the incident.
