The University of Denver has fired its head men’s hockey coach. George Gwozdecky has
been let go after winning a pair of NCAA championships during his 19-year tenure.
Gwozdecky’s career record is 443-267-64 at Denver. The Pioneers finished 20-14-5 this season, but lost in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons.
Gwozdecky was a forward at Wisconsin during the Badgers 1977 NCAA Championship season. He also coached UW-River Falls to an NAIA title in 1983.
Gwozdecky was inducted into the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.
