It’s Earth Day

April 22, 2013 By WRN Contributor

It’s a time not only for environmental awareness, but also a reminder from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation that the agency is committed to using recycled materials during construction projects.

Last year, according to the state DOT, over two million tons of recycled materials were used on transportation and infrastructure projects, including “green” highways, airports, train stations, bridges and multi-use paths for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The agency says these efforts not only save millions of dollars but they conserve natural resources, save on greenhouse gas emissions, and lessen the impact on the environment.
