Cause of house explosion still unknown

May 21, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused a house to explode in Eau Claire County over the weekend.

Investigators say they are waiting for insurance agents to assess the damage before returning to the home that was leveled Sunday afternoon just east of Eau Claire. The family who lives in the home was out of state on vacation.

Five neighboring homes were also damaged, but no one was hurt. One neighbor said the blast blew out the windows and damaged walls in his home. Another neighbor reported hearing a lightning strike earlier in the day Sunday.

Firefighters say an LP gas leak is a possible cause.
