Craigslist joke backfires

May 23, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A joke has resulted in a felony charge against a western Racine County man.

Jason Willis, 30, has been charged with felony “identity theft” for allegedly placing an ad on craigslist that resulted in a nearly naked man knocking on his neighbor’s door.

According to court documents, the victim called the Racine County Sheriff’s Office last November because someone wearing only a coat kept ringing her doorbell. An investigation revealed several internet postings in the victim’s name soliciting men for sex. Investigators say Willis admitted to placing the ads, claiming it was just joke. He could face up to six years in prison if convicted of the charge.
