A man is dead after his car was hit by a northbound Amtrak train Tuesday, near the Racine County village of Franksville.

The accident happened at about 2:15 Tuesday afternoon. Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki says it appears the car was being driven along the tracks, when it collided with the train. Zarzecki says the collision occurred about 200 yards south of a railroad crossing.

There were 114 people on the Amtrak train, which was bound for Milwaukee at the time of the accident. No one on board was hurt.

Police have not yet released the identity of the driver.

Train traffic between Milwaukee and Chicago was delayed for most of the afternoon while the investigation was underway and the scene was cleared.
