A Minnesota woman was arrested Wednesday after Dunn County authorities say she falsely reported being held hostage, causing Sheriff’s Deputies and an Eau Claire County SWAT team to be called out. Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith said his department was contacted by a woman who claimed that her daughter was being held against her will, and was sending text messages. During the investigation, the daughter sent text messages saying she was being held in a house by a large man who was armed with a gun and a knife. She also claimed she had her two young children with her.
When checking a residence in Wheeler, a deputy saw a woman matching the description of the supposed hostage. On talking to the woman, she turned out to be the alleged victim. Investigators say she admitted sending false text messages to her mother and to law enforcement. The woman, 27 year-old Michelle Lien, was arrested for obstructing an officer. Holly Berg of Boyceville was also arrested in connection to the incident.
