Tourism means big bucks in Wisconsin

May 3, 2013 By WRN Contributor

A new report today shows the impact of tourism on Wisconsin. There were more than 97 million visits to the state last year, according to the study prepared for the state Department of Tourism.

Deputy Secretary Dave Fantle says advertising pays off. “We’ve seen a steady increase in our tourism marketing budget and with that has come a steady increase of tourism expenditures in the state of Wisconsin.”

The report shows tourism expenditures totaled nearly $17 billion in Wisconsin last year, almost a 5 percent increase from the year before. The tourism industry also supported about 185,000 jobs in the state.
