A wildfire in Douglas County has burned more than 3,500 acres and several structures, and officials with the state Department of Natural Resources says it continues to grow. The fire is southwest of the Township of Barnes and evacuations are underway near Loon Lake, Sand Lake, and Murray Lake.
The DNR says several units are on the scene and more have been ordered. Those include tractor plows, heavy dozers, air attack planes, and single engine tankers. At least 16 more tractor plows are on their way.
The fire is estimated to be about six miles long and a mile wide at its widest point. It’s traveling northeast and burning in a mix of hardwoods and pine.
The cause is still under investigation. DNR officials say it is too early to predict when fire fighters may have the wildfire under control.
