AWOL sailor faces charges in Racine County

July 9, 2013 By WRN Contributor

An AWOL sailor from Ohio shows up in Racine County, and now faces burglary charges.

19-year old Tyler McElroy failed to show up for basic training, but turned up July 2nd inside the home of a Caledonia family. He was chased out after having loaded a backpack with numerous food items, while also charging an iPhone in the kitchen.

Police tracked him to a nearby school, and when arrested, he told officers about being “hungry and desperate,” while living in a vacant building.

McElroy returns to court next week.
