Gun taken from man entering Madison courthouse

July 15, 2013 By Bob Hague

A  man carrying a gun in his backpack was stopped on his way into the Dane County Courthouse in Madison. According to a press release issued on Monday, the 44 year-old Oregon man, accompanied by his two children, was headed to traffic court in Dane County on Friday when he allowed his backpack to be screened.

Deputies took possession of the gun and questioned the man. He said he knew it was wrong to bring the gun to the courthouse, but had forgotten it was in the backpack. The man has a valid concealed carry permit

The incident is being reviewed by the Dane County district attorney’s office. Weapons are banned inside the Dane County Courthouse.
