NWS offering forecasts for Lake Winnebago

July 5, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Boaters planning a trip out on Lake Winnebago can now get a better idea of what water conditions will be like. The National Weather Service started offering a new forecast for the lake this week out of its Green Bay office, which will predict wind and wave information.

NWS meteorologist Jeff Last says they have been working on a sophisticated model for several months, which accounts for geography and water temperature. Last says it’s something fisherman and recreational boaters have been requesting for years, and he’s glad to have it available now.

The forecast will cover up to two days in the future.
