Badgers drop Canadian exhibition opener

The basketball Badgers opened their 5-game Canadian exhibition tour with a 95-82

loss to Carleton University in Ottawa last night.

Sam Dekker scored 28 points, including 21 in the second half to lead the Badgers.  Traevon Jackson added 19 points and Frank Kaminsky 14.

Carleton shot 53% from the field and 76% from the free throw line for the game.  The Badgers shot 46% from the field and 63% from the free throw line.  Wisconsin finished 38% from three-point range.  They were 46% from beyond the arc in the second half.

The Badgers, looking to replace three starters from last years team, trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Wednesday’s game also marked the return of Josh Gasser.  The junior guard, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL, got the starting nod and played 12 minutes.  He finished with 2 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals.

The Badgers play game 2 of their 5-game, 8-day trip tonight when they take on Ottawa University.
