An employee at a Walmart in Neenah is in critical condition, after police say she was shot during a confrontation at the store Wednesday morning.

Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson says 46-year-old Justine Boyd walked into the store’s liquor department, argued with the employee, and then shot her in the stomach. Wilkinson says the suspect and victim knew each other, but the motive remains unclear. “This investigation continues,” he says, “clearly we’ll be asking a lot of those questions and finding out all the background that we can, anything that would have lead up to this incident.”

Wilkinson says it does not look like Boyd was trying to rob the store, and she remained there until police arrived. “There’s no indication that the person made any attempt to flea … stayed in the store and was identified by the people who saw what occurred.”

Boyd is also a cashier at the store, and worked with the victim. Only one shot was fired. Wilkinson says investigators are looking at surveillance video of the incident.

The victim remains in critical condition at an area hospital. Her name has not been released.
