first college football playoff selection committee.

CBSSports.com reported Alvarez and USC athletic director Pat Haden are expected to be named to the committee.  That committee is expected to have between 12 and 18 members and the four-team playoff is set to begin in 2014.

Alvarez told The Big 1070 in Madison and the Big 920 in Milwaukee, “College football really has been very, very good to me.  Everything I have in my life, from education to family and everything else, is because of college football…I would feel some obligation but still I have a job to do here first.”

Credibility is also a key for this new group.  Alvarez said, “I think you need people that know football, not just administrators.  I think you need somebody that can turn on film and know what they’re looking at, looking for, rather than just looking at statistics.”
