Brewers place Gamel and Green on waivers

October 3, 2013 By Bill Scott

Mat Gamel and Taylor Green spent the entire 2013 season on the sidelines, rehabbing injuries.  Yesterday, the Milwaukee Brewers placed both players on waivers.  If they clear waivers today, Gamel and Green could stay with the organization on minor-league deals.

The 28-year-old Gamel nas not played since tearing his ACL on May 1, 2012 at San Diego.  He was the Brewers starting first baseman at the time.

Corey Hart took over at first base last season, had surgery on his right knee in January and then on his left knee in July and never played in 2013.  The Brewers are considering whether to sign Hart for 2014, likely to a deal heavy in incentives.

Those injuries forced the Brewers to handle first base by committee last season.  Seven players made their first big-league starts there.

Minor League Suspension

Brewers minor-league pitcher Dylan Brock received a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.  That suspension takes effect at the start of the 2014 season.
