DOT receives Frigo Bridge repair estimates

October 30, 2013 By Bob Hague

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has unveiled the three bids submitted by contractors looking to repair the sagging Leo Frigo Bridge.

The bids were:

  • Zenith Tech, Waukesha, $7.77 million
  • Lunda Construction, Black River Falls, $8.28 million
  • Edward Kraemer & Sons, Plain, $8.83 million

The DOT staff will now analyze the bids to make sure they comply with all of the state’s demands. The contract is expected to be awarded Wednesday, with work starting next week. Initial projections had the project costing approximately $50 million.

The bridge which carries Interstate 43 over the Fox River closed on September 25th after one of its east side piers – Pier 22 – dipped about two feet. The construction contract would require the bridge to be finished by January 17. There would be incentives to have it finished before then and penalties if finished after that date.
