New law helps Wisconsin loggers

October 24, 2013 By WRN Contributor

Governor Walker has signed a transportation bill authored by State Senator Jerry Petrowski that will allow for heavier trucks carrying lumber in the Northwoods.

The law will allow multi axle trucks to carry more weight on selected north eastern Wisconsin highways to help the wood products industry.

It’s sometimes known as the “Michigan Configuration,” and Petrowski says keeping logging competitive in the state is vital. “Forestry is such a huge industry, and we need to make sure that we can further the job creation and the commerce that’s created there.”

“This legislation increases the flow of commerce in northern Wisconsin and promotes our forest products industry across state lines,” Governor Walker said. “I thank Senator Jerry Petrowski and Representative Jeff Mursau for their leadership on this bill.”

The bill cleared both the Assembly and the Senate earlier this month on voice votes.
