Appleton veteran honored for clean energy efforts

November 6, 2013 By Bob Hague

After driving a truck in a supply convoy in Iraq, an Appleton woman became a national advocate for clean energy. That work has earned her the attention of the Obama administration. Robin Eckstein is one 12 military veterans were honored Tuesday for their achievements in advancing clean energy and climate security at a White House ceremony.

Eckstein said the military is making progress in the fight against climate change. She was part of a group that met with leaders at the Pentagon, to talk about the issue. Eckstein has also taken that message around the nation. “Recognizing that moving to clean renewable energy here in Wisconsin is just plain good for us,” Eckstein said during a 2012 stop at the Capitol in Madison. “We get most of our energy from outside Wisconsin, so it’s just going to shore up jobs here.” Eckstein is part of Operation Free, a coalition of veterans and national security agencies campaigning for comprehensive clean energy reform.
