Flynn back in Green Bay, backing up Scott Tolzien (Audio)

November 14, 2013 By Bill Scott

Matt Flynn left the Green Bay Packers after the 2011 season as a free agent.  After a

couple of strong late season showings with the Packers, Flynn’s stock had raised enough that he decided it was time to cash in.

Flynn signed with the Seattle but couldn’t beat out former Badger Russell Wilson.  He was eventually traded to Oakland, but struggled there and lost the job to Terrelle Pryor.  Flynn was eventually released and he signed with Buffalo after the Bills had sustained a number of injuries at the quarterback position.

Once everyone was healthy in Buffalo, Flynn was sent on his way again.  This time though, the Packers were in need of quarterback help after Aaron Rodgers went down with a shoulder injury and his backup Seneca Wallace suffered a groin injury.

Scott Tolzien is the starter, but Flynn was called in to be his backup.  That’s three offenses in a short period of time.  So when he signed with the Packers, he was grateful to be in a system that he pretty much already knows.

Flynn said, “I definitely never expected to be back here in this locker room.  “I feel very fortunate and blessed to have this opportunity, but looking back at the last year and a half, last two seasons, definitely didn’t go the way I planned on it, for whatever reason that was.

There was some concern around the NFL about Flynn’s elbow, but Flynn proclaimed himself 100%.

Flynn said there was no discussion about anything beyond this season.  He’s here to help the Packers get through this week against the Giants and then take things a week at a time.
