Gearing up for a busy travel week

November 25, 2013 By Andrew Beckett

If you are planning a trip for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, expect plenty of company out on the roads. AAA is projecting that more than 43 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the long holiday weekend, with about 873,000 Wisconsinites among them.

Pam Moen with AAA-Wisconsin says the busiest day on the roads will be Wednesday, as people head out to spend time with family. Moen says most people will be going by car, with about 90 percent of travel expected to take place on the nation’s roads. That still leaves about three million people flying though, which she warns is always a risk if bad weather strikes part of the country.

Moen says those traveling by road should also keep an eye on the weather and allow themselves plenty of time to deal with crowded roadways as they head to their destination.

Those traveling by car should be paying a little less to get to their destinations this year. AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report shows the statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is hanging around $3.15 a gallon. That’s about $0.25 lower than it was at this time last year.
