Boy falls through ice, dies

A 13-year-old boy was clearing snow to create a skating rink on a private pond with a skid steer loader, when the machine broke through the ice. Clark County Sheriff’s Captain James Hirsch says a family member found the boy when they became concerned, and went looking for him.

Clark County dispatched emergency crews at 11:38 a.m. The boy was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he was pronounced dead.

Fire and ambulance crews from Owen-Withee, Curtiss, and Abbotsford and Spirit Ambulance assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
