Case of social security fraud goes to court

December 30, 2013 By WRN Contributor

One of three individuals believed responsible for cashing his mother’s Social Security checks for over thirty years is expected in court today.

It’s an unusual case that began over a year ago. Charles Jost of rural Amherst is accused of theft by false representation, forgery, mail fraud, and unauthorized use of someone else’s personal documents for cashing the checks for Marie Jost. Charles Jost is scheduled to enter a plea in Portage County court at 11 o’clock.

Marie Jost and Charles’ brother Theodore Jost have not been seen alive since the early 1980s and are presumed dead. Charles’ sister Delores Disher and her husband Ronald Disher are also charged in the case. Delores has been physically unable to go to court, and is being treated in a nursing home.

Investigators believe the three illegally collected around $175,000 in benefits in the past 33 years.
