Appleton schools move to ban e-cigarettes

January 15, 2014 By WRN Contributor

The Appleton Area School District has moved to update its smoking regulations by adding e-cigarettes to the district’s smoking prohibitions. An area anti smoking group said its a pretty big issue.

Grace Lind of Community Action for Healthy Living said e-cigarettes create a problem, because many school rules ban tobacco products, and the devices contain nicotine without tobacco. Lind said its an issue many other Wisconsin schools will likely address soon.

The board of education voted Tuesday to add e-cigarettes to the district’s existing ban. Lind said she’s talked to students at several local high schools, and they told her that they’ve seen people using the e-cigarettes on campus.
